ON days of extreme heat, Cape Clear Hall committee members will be opening the building and putting on the air conditioning, so the community can have a place to stay cool.<\/span><\/p>\n

The hall will be open on days when the temperature is set to reach 38 degrees or hotter with updates provided to the community on the Cape Clear community\u2019s Facebook page and the CFA website.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are going to make sure there is someone at the Cape Clear Hall so people can get some relief,\u201d said hall committee chair Evelyn Cannon.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are hoping to build up that network and conversion so we can reach a wider range of the community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from providing a cool place to rest, there will also be games and activities on offer for the community as well as tea and coffee.<\/span><\/p>\n

Those who come along are asked to bring their own food.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ms Cannon said the committee decided to start the initiative to ensure all members of the community could be comfortable on hot days.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of modern houses have air conditioning, but a lot of older ones don\u2019t and a lot of pensioners have air conditioners but are unable to run them,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to be able to offer air conditioning to people for free.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

For community members who may be struggling on hot days below 38 degrees, Ms Cannon encouraged them to still reach out to the committee.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are always just a phone call away so if there are people in the community who are struggling they are welcome to contact us and we will try our best,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
