THE Lions Club of Buninyong-Mount Helen has made a gesture of support to the families of defence force veterans who sacrificed their lives or health throughout their service.<\/p>\n
Club members have made a $1000 donation to Legacy Ballarat, as the national organisation marks 100 years of assisting veterans\u2019 love 2023.<\/p>\n
But the donation is not a one-off, with the Lions pledging to give the same amount annually.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Buninyong community are great supporters of the club\u2019s shops and projects that are run by our active and enthusiastic group of some 75 members and volunteers,\u201d said Lions Club of Buninyong-Mount Helen president Gary White.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are delighted for our initiatives to contribute towards supporting Legacy in its valued community service.\u201d<\/p>\n
The town\u2019s Lions lead four annual major projects to raise funds, including the local Lions opportunity and book shops, and the De Soza Park community Christmas carols concert.<\/p>\n
They also coordinate public speaking opportunities for young people in primary and secondary school.<\/p>\n
Buninyong Legatee Ron Fleming said the organisation is grateful to share in the funds raised.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt this time of the year, we are delivering Christmas gifts to our Legacy families so really welcome the contribution to our annual program from the Buninyong-Mount Helen Lions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
About 400 people and families benefit from the support services offered by Legacy Ballarat which include social events, welfare initiatives, disability support, and camps.<\/p>\n
Legatees also lead the Legacy Junior Public Speaking Competition for 12-to-14-year-old students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
