{"id":95770,"date":"2024-01-13T04:59:32","date_gmt":"2024-01-12T17:59:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=95770"},"modified":"2024-01-11T09:00:21","modified_gmt":"2024-01-10T22:00:21","slug":"club-raises-the-bat-for-150-knock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/club-raises-the-bat-for-150-knock\/","title":{"rendered":"Club raises the bat for 150 knock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AN upcoming match between Shelford and Corio Bay will precede an evening of celebrations for the local club.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place on Saturday 3 February, Bullants members are set to follow the game with a 150th anniversary celebration and past players day.<\/p>\n<p>Shelford Cricket Club president Robert Rice said the event will be all about acknowledging the team\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe club rooms will be decked out with memorabilia and we\u2019ve got a heap of old scorecards dating back to the late 1950s that will be displayed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur five anniversary premiership scorecards will be out and about and we\u2019ll have old screenshots of newspaper articles up from the late 1800s and early 1900s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe club\u2019s won 20 premierships in its history and they\u2019ll all be celebrated too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Between 100 to 150 past players are expected to attend the event, with dinner provided and live music by Matt Orchard.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_95772\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-95772\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-95772\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2024\/01\/1988-89-LCA-A-Grade-300x280.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2024\/01\/1988-89-LCA-A-Grade-300x280.png 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2024\/01\/1988-89-LCA-A-Grade-768x718.png 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2024\/01\/1988-89-LCA-A-Grade.png 977w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-95772\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shelford Cricket Club\u2019s first recorded match took place in April, 1874. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mr Rice has been involved with the club for nearly 20 years, taking after his brother who joined as a junior player in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>He said the event will be a celebration for the town as much as it will be for the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s pretty much the heartbeat of the town in a sense,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s the only building at the moment where townsfolk can get together and do stuff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe club\u2019s certainly been a big part of the town and without it, it would be a pretty quiet place. It gives us locals something to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not just a milestone for the club but for the town. It\u2019s a celebration for the town and everyone\u2019s welcome to just turn up and have a look on the day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Shelford Cricket Club currently has about 18 members as part of their senior men\u2019s team.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AN upcoming match between Shelford and Corio Bay will precede an evening of celebrations for the local club.
