COMMUNITY members who want to keep their first aid and CPR training up to date are being invited to complete a course at Haddon Community Learning Centre.<\/p>\n
Participants who complete the course will acquire an accreditation that complies with workplace health and safety requirements.<\/p>\n
While CPR training is required to be undertaken annually, the first aid certificate will last three years.<\/p>\n
The course involves one day of training on Tuesday 23 January from 9am until 5pm and a pre-course online component must also be completed.<\/p>\n
Participants are also asked to ensure they have a unique student identifier, or USI, which can be obtained online.<\/p>\n
Manager of Haddon Community Learning Centre, Joan Coker, said it is particularly important for people living in rural areas to have first aid training.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of communities are isolated and even if you\u2019re at home I think it\u2019s very important,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had a couple of people who had ill husbands and they wanted to be able to do it at home because sometimes ambulances don\u2019t get there.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo it\u2019s very important for us in the country to have this knowledge.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Coker said having the first aid certificate is also very attractive to recruiters.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you\u2019re going for a job, it\u2019s really important that you have a CPR training certificate,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s one tick off for the person who\u2019s interviewing you.\u201d<\/p>\n
