ARE you seeking school holiday family fun, or wanting to start the year by giving a non-traditional sport a go?<\/p>\n
Ballarat Ultimate members are running an ultimate frisbee come-and-try session at their home field at Royal Park in Buninyong this Tuesday 23 January.<\/p>\n
President of Ballarat Ultimate, Leah Cushion, said it\u2019s a fun and inclusive sport for men and women, and people of all ages.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a feel-good sport with a welcoming atmosphere,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a mixed sport, it\u2019s non-contact, and it\u2019s self-refereed, so players are modest and honest because they have to be accountable for their own decisions on the field.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor those that might be sick of the standard sports, don\u2019t have a sport that they call home, or feel daunted by getting into established sports, they can just step into frisbee.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s fun and fast-paced, but no one expects you to know the rules.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ballarat Ultimate has about 50 regular players, and this weekend, they will host their annual major tournament.<\/p>\n
The Golden City Classic includes frisbee action at Trekardo Park, and disc golf at Victoria Park.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf people are interested in trying ultimate frisbee next week, the tournament is a great way for people to see how it\u2019s played first,\u201d Ms Cushion said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got seven teams from around the state coming to participate in that event at Trekardo Park on Saturday, so that\u2019s primarily why we chose this time of year for the come-and-try.\u201d<\/p>\n
The trial evening will run from 6pm to 7pm with a stream for people over the age of 15, and a group for children and teens.<\/p>\n
Leagues are run every Tuesday night during the school term at Royal Park in Buninyong.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
