A CELEBRATION of her \u201cbeloved\u201d former profession, stand-up comedian Georgie Carroll\u2019s\u00a0Sista Flo 2.0<\/i>\u00a0is coming to the Civic Hall early next month.
\nThe former nurse said she\u2019s bringing 80 minutes of laughs to Ballarat, which medicos may find reminiscent of the hospital break room.
\n\u201cIt is staff room banter,\u201d she said. \u201cIf you want to know what nurses talk about on a night shift, it\u2019s that.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s not for the faint hearted, don\u2019t bring your kids, but there\u2019s a lot of love there too. We\u2019re very judgy, but we always care.\u201d
\nA Brit now based in Australia, Carroll has made a name for herself, regularly selling out at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and performing on\u00a0Britain\u2019s Got Talent<\/i>\u00a0in 2023.
\nClearly audiences have connected with\u00a0Sista Flo 2.0<\/i>, which won Best Comedy Show at Adelaide Fringe Festival in 2021.
\n\u201cThere\u2019s a bit of nursing in everyone,\u201d she said. \u201cEverybody\u2019s had to look after someone or had to be looked after.
\n\u201cThe audience is usually 60 per cent healthcare workers, so if you\u2019re in Ballarat, don\u2019t get ill that day, because nobody\u2019s working.
\n\u201cMy aim is that the audience come out saying they haven\u2019t laughed that hard in forever.\u201d
\nAfter a tumultuous few years for the healthcare sector, the pressure on hospitals continues, and Carroll said she aims to help medicos feel a bit better, if only for the night.
\n\u201cLaughter is the best medicine,\u201d she said. \u201cAlthough actual medicine is better, so I\u2019m probably not as useful as I was in hospital in intensive care and emergency.
\n\u201cBut sometimes I pinch myself. Hopefully, I get to make these rooms of people, who look after everyone else, feel better. I don\u2019t get to nurse anymore, so this makes me feel part of it.
\n\u201cIn the last couple of years, it\u2019s been full on. The staff can come out, see each other without a mask on, get done up, and see the fun side of this workforce, rather than just the stress.\u201d
