GOLDEN Plains Shire-based service Firefly Wellbeing is running a session at Bannockburn for professionals, educators, parents and carers who would like to learn more about child yoga.<\/p>\n
Charlotte Kelberg founded the organisation along with Shellie Stojanovski, and Ms Kelberg said the pair want to make child yoga more accessible through techniques such as storytelling and games.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was an idea that was suggested by one of the kindergarten teachers when we went along and delivered a session to a group of children,\u201d said Ms Kelberg.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to build the capacity for people to do yoga themselves in their everyday lives.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor us it was a fantastic opportunity to take some of the basic principles of child yoga and be able to share them.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event will explore the theory behind child yoga, it\u2019s benefits and how to integrate the activity into everyday life.<\/p>\n
Everyone who takes part will be awarded a certificate of participation and no yoga experience is required.<\/p>\n
\u201cTraditional yoga can be more based around flow and breadth and we still use those concepts in our classes but we do it in a way that is more child friendly,\u201d said Ms Kelberg.<\/p>\n
\u201cShort, sharp and sweet activities are really good as it needs to be something they can engage in.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is still the essence of yoga but with a more modern, child friendly focus.\u201d<\/p>\n
The session is set to take place on Tuesday 20 February from 5.30pm at Bannockburn Cultural Centre.<\/p>\n
