LOCAL farmers are being invited to attend a session in Inverleigh all about creating an animal health plan for sheep.<\/p>\n
The seminar run by Agriculture Victoria and veterinarian Dr Monica Dickson from Ballarat Veterinary Services will focus on creating a plan which decreases biosecurity risks and increases animal performance.<\/p>\n
Topics covered will include local health issues and their prevention, treatment options and creating an animal health plan.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a free workshop where we will talk about biosecurity, animal health and record keeping and we will have a fabulous guest presenter, Dr Monica Dickson,\u201d said Agriculture Victoria livestock development officer Hannah Manning.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe really knows about this topic because she deals with sheep medicine all day every day.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will be a really fun and interactive session.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Manning said having a plan is important for animal health and wellbeing and creates economic benefits.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn animal health care plan makes up part of a biosecurity plan and farmers should have a biosecurity plan,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt sounds a bit scary but it\u2019s basically a document that outlines strategies farmers can put in place to reduce risk of pests and disease.\u201d<\/p>\n
The free session will be held at Inverleigh Bowls Club on Wednesday 28 February from 10am until 2pm.<\/p>\n
