EVER wanted a guided exploration through the history of Linton and surrounds?<\/p>\n
Members of the Linton and District Historical Society are looking to deliver just that with a bus tour next month.<\/p>\n
Taking place on April 14, the tour bus is set to roll through the region with insight provided on landmark buildings and locations at Linton, Happy Valley, and parts of Pittong.<\/p>\n
“The main aim is to show members and non-members some of the historic places around Linton,” Linton and District Historical Society president Jill Wheeler said.<\/p>\n
“We did one of these four years ago and it was very popular. They’re seems to be an appetite from people around the district to find out more about the<\/p>\n
locality’s history.”<\/p>\n
With Golden Plains Shire councillor Ian Getsom at the wheel, the tour will start and end at the Linton Community, taking off at 1pm and returning about 4.30pm.<\/p>\n
An estimated five stops will take place including an afternoon tea at the old Happy Valley school.<\/p>\n
Linton’s main thoroughfare, former businesses and residences, and local churches will feature on the tour as well as the town’s Aboriginal history and nearby mine and railway infrastructure.<\/p>\n
The tour will be accompanied with insights from Wheeler and Linton local Chris Grigg.<\/p>\n
“I’ve got a detailed knowledge on the distant past of the town and Chris has a more detailed understanding of the more immediate, the last 50 years,” she said. “It won’t just be about the naming of the place. It’ll be what it was at different times in Linton’s history.”<\/p>\n
The bus will hold a capacity of 50 passengers. The tour will cost $20 per person and bookings can be made by emailing enquiries@lintonhistory.org.au.<\/p>\n
