AHEAD of the next Federal election expected in 2025, the Liberal Party have identified Darcy Dunstan as their candidate for the seat of Corangamite.
\nThe tradesman, business owner, and parent was formerly in the Australian Defence Force’s Special Air Service, and said it was an honour and privilege to be endorsed by the party.
\n“I live in this community with my fianc\u00e9e, my 14-month-old daughter, and I see a future for this country where all Australian children, my daughter included, have more opportunities than everyone here today,” he said.
\n“I want to fight to get this country back on track. People in this community are struggling, hard-working Australians, families sacrificing a lot just to pay the bills.
\n“This is the start of the campaign.”
\nMr Dunstan said he had a lot of hard work ahead of him but welcomes that challenge.
\n“I look forward to meeting residents in all corners of the electorate, working with community groups, business owners, and making sure that their wants and needs are heard at the highest levels.”
\nMr Dunstan said the main issues facing the electorate include the cost of living and the need to listen to businesspeople.
\nAs a volunteer, Mr Dunstan has been a CFA member and surf lifesaver, has taken part in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race to raise funds for charity, aimed to protect African black rhinos from poachers, and worked in an Indigenous community with elders and youth.
\nHe plays sport with the Modewarre Football Club.
\nThe seat of Corangamite includes the townships of Inverleigh and Bannockburn.
\nThe current Member for Corangamite is Labor’s Libby Coker who won 57.6 per cent of the vote in 2022 ahead of the Liberal Party’s Stephanie Asher with 42.2 per cent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
