FEDERATION University is teaming up with frozen food mega chain McCain Foods to deliver placements for students based around the cooperative model.<\/p>\n
The globally recognised model rewards students undertaking on-the-ground vocational experience with academic credit, and the new partnership will see the first rounds of placements beginning this year.<\/p>\n
The partnership is set to bring in additional placements next year which is when the cooperative model is set to be integrated across all of Federation University Australia.<\/p>\n
Federation University student Mo Radmehr said the cooperative model is giving him tangible real-world experience while undertaking his studies.<\/p>\n
“I’m learning and gaining hands-on experience in IT, which is important as I’m unable to do the same with university as an online IT student,” he said. “I believe this placement is super helpful, as I can gain skills and experience before I graduate university.<\/p>\n
“This shows that I can handle working and studying simultaneously and earn credibility when it comes to finding a job.<\/p>\n
“I’m also able to earn a steady income which allows me to fund my necessary expenses including rent, fuel, and groceries.”<\/p>\n
Leigh Kennedy, Federation University associate deputy vice-chancellor for global and engagement said the partnership marks an exciting new phase for the education provider.<\/p>\n
“We are excited to have McCains join us on our journey to become Australia’s first cooperative university, where industry, education, research, community, and government are coming together to transform tertiary education,” she said.<\/p>\n
McCain HR programs manager for Australia and New Zealand, Sarah Cullinan, said the program is another way for the organisation to give back to the community.<\/p>\n
“McCain has been in the Ballarat community for 50 years and we’re a proud local employer,” she said.<\/p>\n
“We’re excited to partner with Federation University’s co-op program and give local students the opportunity to work in our business, learn from passionate leaders and leave their mark.<\/p>\n
