{"id":97536,"date":"2024-04-25T12:51:31","date_gmt":"2024-04-25T02:51:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=97536"},"modified":"2024-04-25T12:52:39","modified_gmt":"2024-04-25T02:52:39","slug":"community-commemorates-sacrifices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/community-commemorates-sacrifices\/","title":{"rendered":"Community commemorates sacrifices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THIS morning, members of the Golden Plains Shire community gathered to remember the sacrifices made by servicepeople.<\/p>\n<p>The day began with dawn services in Bannockburn and Corindhap, organised by Inverleigh and Rokewood RSLs.<\/p>\n<p>A range of events were held throughout the morning in all corners of the shire, including the annual march and major service in Inverleigh.<\/p>\n<p>The 11am Rokewood service began with a march from the RSL to the memorial on the main street as Ballarat Grammar students played the bag pipes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2024\/04\/Helena_71020.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cr Helena Kirby laid a wreath on behalf of the Golden Plains Shire council. Photo: MIRIAM LITWIN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Brian Dingley, president of the Rokewood RSL, said it was great to see so many community members attend the services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it has gone really well,\u201d he said. \u201cNumbers have been picking up since COVID and it\u2019s actually been a big turn up for the dawn service and here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of the community is getting more involved with the commemorations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vice-president Craig Ramsay said the club is trying to get the community involved in more initiatives throughout the year, not just on Anzac Day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to do an annual bonfire and at the Rokewood Car and Bike Show we had a tent set up and a sausage sizzle,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to do more community things.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2024\/04\/CraigandBrian_72550.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rokewood RSL vice-president Craig Ramsay and president Brian Dingley.
