{"id":97988,"date":"2024-05-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-19T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=97988"},"modified":"2024-05-15T18:55:56","modified_gmt":"2024-05-15T08:55:56","slug":"class-to-deliver-modern-dance-tips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/living\/class-to-deliver-modern-dance-tips\/","title":{"rendered":"Class to deliver modern dance tips"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AN upcoming workshop hosted by regional creative non-profit The BOP Arts Co-op is coming soon with the aim of teaching attendees the basics behind contemporary dance.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place at Lethbridge Hall, the one-off session will be led by Inverleigh-based dance artist Lyndel Quick of Blink Dance Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Lyndel&#8217;s a well-known artist in Geelong and surrounds,&#8221; The BOP Arts Co-Op director Samantha Thompson said. &#8220;This is offering something new and it won&#8217;t be for professional dancers but for people interested in movement and ways to express themselves physically.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The introductory session will see attendees exploring phrase material, floorwork and improvisation.<\/p>\n<p>Quick has operated out of her Geelong-based studio The Loft for 20 years through which she regularly runs dance classes and programs, as well as other artistic projects.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2024\/05\/387094952_8157559405_94006.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"612\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The BOP Arts Co-op is being supported with a $10,000 Creative Community grant from Golden Plains Shire with the aim of delivering about a dozen activities for 2024 including artist-run workshops.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ms Thompson said the upcoming workshop is the first in an experimental program of offerings aimed at showcasing the region&#8217;s creatives.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got another one in August I&#8217;m running called Creative Critters which is a textile workshop making monsters and creatures with reclaimed fabrics.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Then there&#8217;ll be another one from a movement-based artist from Bannockburn which we&#8217;re getting the dates sorted on.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s just a matter of finding the people here in this region that are offering something different and testing the waters with different ideas and in a contemporary lens because there&#8217;s already traditional arts offerings in the shire.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The BOP is able to subsidise their payment too which is fantastic so no matter how many people attend, the artist is still supported and paid.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The workshop will run from 3pm to 5pm on Sunday 2 June and is for attendees aged 16 and over.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are $20 for The BOP members and $25 for non-members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AN upcoming workshop hosted by regional creative non-profit The BOP Arts Co-op is coming soon with the aim of teaching attendees the basics behind contemporary dance.
