BUNINYONG Football Netball Club is set to receive a new scoreboard with $130,000 of funding allocated to the club in the state government’s budget.<\/p>\n
The club has about 1,500 attendees during a normal season and more during finals.<\/p>\n
The current scoreboard is old and unreliable, and club president Dallas Leehane said this has caused concern.<\/p>\n
“Our scoreboard at the moment is constantly breaking down and obsolete in parts,” he said.<\/p>\n
“It’s only a matter of time until it shuts off for the last time and we can’t fix it.”<\/p>\n
The new scoreboard will be multi-purpose, providing a site where the community can watch outdoor movies, broadcast events or make announcements from.<\/p>\n
“This funding will make a massive difference not just to the club but to the community since it’s a community facility,” said Mr Leehane.<\/p>\n
“The new one will have speakers and be digitalised so we can have movie nights for the kids and just be more inclusive for the club as a whole.”<\/p>\n
Member for Eureka, Michaela Settle, was at the ground last Saturday to celebrate the announcement and she said it was important for the state government to fund this project.<\/p>\n
“Sports clubs are at the absolute heart of communities and Buninyong Football Netball Club is a huge and thriving club so it’s really important that they have good infrastructure,” she said.<\/p>\n
“I am really pleased that we can invest in the community this way.<\/p>\n
“It frees up volunteer time instead of having to run over and change the scores and with the new digital technology they can do all sorts of amazing things like show films or have a fundraiser.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
