{"id":98481,"date":"2024-07-05T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-04T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=98481"},"modified":"2024-07-19T08:16:26","modified_gmt":"2024-07-18T22:16:26","slug":"fun-for-future-football-stars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/sport\/fun-for-future-football-stars\/","title":{"rendered":"Fun for future football stars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MEMBERS of the Woady Yaloak Football Netball Club have celebrated the last Auskick session of the year at Smythesdale Recreation Reserve.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first year an Auskick program has been at Smythesdale, and president Adam Liversage said the program has been successful.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It used to be at Haddon but we&#8217;ve brought it down to Smythesdale now on a Thursday night,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It feels more a part of the club as a whole, so tonight we&#8217;ve also got the under 13 teams who are going to be playing a game with the Auskick kids.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We try and create that real sense of community out here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/07\/Poppy_41887.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Poppy lines up for a kick.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Auskick aims to introduce children to Australian rules football with game-based activities and no need for uniforms or extensive equipment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Kids just love running around don&#8217;t they,&#8221; said Mr Liversage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We turn the light on and try making it fun\u2026 we make sure the kids aren&#8217;t standing around doing nothing with three or four sessions going at once.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Seven-year-old Claire took part in the program, and she aspires to play for the Western Bulldogs AFLW team.<\/p>\n<p>Her favourite aspects of Auskick are playing matches and kicking goals.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/07\/Auskick_42765.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"381\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More than 50 children took part in the Woady Yaloak Football Netball Club&#8217;s Auskick program.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When Mr Liversage began his involvement with Auskick in the region about 15 years ago there were around 12 to 15 kids taking part.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the program has grown to as many as 80 children with 50 registered for 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the introduction of under nines football that has reduced the levels of Auskick numbers a little bit,&#8221; said Mr Liversage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But at least those kids are still involved in footy in some way and 50 kids this year is truly fantastic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MEMBERS of the Woady Yaloak Football Netball Club have celebrated the last Auskick session of the year at Smythesdale Recreation Reserve.
