THE roll-out of purple-lidded glass recycling bins in the Golden Plains Shire has been delayed until the end of the year.<\/p>\n
Households were initially expected to begin using the bins in October, however supply issues have been named as the reason for delay.<\/p>\n
“Golden Plains Shire Council ordered the new purple-lidded bins in early 2024, however delivery has been delayed due to supply issues as many councils placed large orders at the same time,” said a Golden Plains Shire spokesperson.<\/p>\n
“Each property that currently receives waste services will get one purple-lidded bin delivered by council’s contractor.<\/p>\n
“The rollout phase will start at the end of 2024.”<\/p>\n
The separate purple glass bins will be introduced in 2025 and at the same time, the frequency of collection of the yellow recycling bin will change from weekly to fortnightly.<\/p>\n
State Government legislation states that all local government areas must move to a four-bin system by 2030.<\/p>\n
“The new purple-lidded glass bin has been mandated by the State Government’s Circular Economy Act 2021, which aims to standardise household recycling across the state,” said the spokesperson.<\/p>\n
“Introducing the glass bin service will help council recover more glass, improve the quality of recycled glass (which can be recycled indefinitely), and reduce contamination in the mixed recycling bin.”<\/p>\n
