{"id":99342,"date":"2024-09-02T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-01T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=99342"},"modified":"2024-08-28T17:26:09","modified_gmt":"2024-08-28T07:26:09","slug":"long-time-partnership-on-display","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/living\/long-time-partnership-on-display\/","title":{"rendered":"Long-time partnership on display"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A CELEBRATION of life and collaboration is forming the thematic basis behind the next exhibition at Ross Creek Gallery.<\/p>\n<p>Next month, local artists and partners Sarah Lloyd and Geoff Bonney will display decades of creating together as part of a joint show called The 2 Of Us.<\/p>\n<p>Both practicing artists since the 1970s and having first co-exhibited in Tangier in 1989, Lloyd said the show will showcase their shared love for art and each other.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s an opportunity to celebrate the fact that after all the years we&#8217;ve been together, which are many, we&#8217;re still making art respectively together and supporting each other,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve been creating art in each other&#8217;s company since 1988.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/09\/IMG_2530_49354.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"435\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The show will have a joyful feel due to both artists overcoming cancer treatment in the past two years.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The show will feature about 10 sculptural pieces from Bonney as well as 40 oil paintings from Lloyd ranging from still life to landscape to abstract subjects.<\/p>\n<p>Each sculpture piece was crafted from a disused piano based at Learmonth&#8217;s Art Hall, which the pair established in 1998 out of the town&#8217;s former mechanics institute.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m celebrating the hall as well and the history behind it. This is almost silent music, the sculptures,&#8221; Bonney said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The piano would have been played at hundreds of balls and footy club dos but it&#8217;s worn out and no longer playable. They&#8217;re all called piano pieces because they would&#8217;ve referred to the music played on that piano.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The sculptures are all in the last year. We&#8217;ve had health problems in the last few years and when I was on chemotherapy, I couldn&#8217;t do large sculptures so I started making these smaller works at the kitchen table.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/09\/image0_49352.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"469\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Creating together: Artists Sarah Lloyd and Geoff Bonney have been co-exhibiting since the late 1980s. Photos: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The message behind the show is made more palpable with both artists having recently undergone cancer treatment over the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re in a celebratory mood,&#8221; Lloyd said. &#8220;Why that particularly came to mind is that we&#8217;ve both been busy surviving cancer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a point of saying we&#8217;re still here and making art.
