CONSTRUCTION of a multi-purpose community hub at Rokewood is underway, replacing outdated buildings at the recreation reserve.<\/p>\n
Earth works began last week, and the Member for Eureka Michaela Settle and Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Brett Cunningham were on site to turn the first sod.<\/p>\n
The aim of the new Rokewood Community Hub – which will have gender-equitable change rooms, meeting areas, public amenities, first aid and storage spaces – is to keep residents of the town connected and engaged.<\/p>\n
The $3.95 million project is being funded by the Rokewood-Corindhap Football Netball Club, the State Government, and Golden Plains Shire.<\/p>\n
“This brand-new community hub is going to be massive for Rokewood locals and everybody living nearby,” said Ms Settle.<\/p>\n
“Having somewhere for the whole community to get together is exciting, and I can’t wait to see it get underway.”<\/p>\n
The State Government has contributed $3.5 million, the Golden Plains Shire is chipping in $442,000 and the Grasshoppers have raised $18,000.<\/p>\n
“We are helping local communities to thrive by building critical infrastructure and improved facilities for the Rokewood community,” said Minister for Suburbs Sonya Kilkenny.<\/p>\n
“I’m delighted that this important project will provide a new home for a range of community groups and recreational activities.”<\/p>\n
