MEMBERS of the Haddon Cricket Club are looking to revive their juniors program with the establishment of an under elevens side.<\/p>\n

With about 10 young players interested, the club is calling out for anyone aged six to 10 to join in to take part in the upcoming Ballarat Cricket Association season.<\/p>\n

“There’s been a bit of interest in the area for a while but we’re at the stage where a lot of the guys at the club have got kids now who are interested,” said club president and junior coordinator Lann Hanson.<\/p>\n

“Cricket’s in a tricky situation in country towns where they’re losing numbers but we’ve got a lot of primary-aged kids near us so it’s helping communities there.<\/p>\n

“We’re a month out from the season and we’ve already got a team together. We’re confident we can get another one ready.”<\/p>\n

“If we get between 16 and 20, that’s heaps for two sides and everyone gets a bowl.”<\/p>\n

The side will begin training at 5pm on 8 October at the town’s recreation reserve prior to games starting on 23 October.<\/p>\n

With the club consisting of a single seniors team for the past five years, Mr Hanson said a new juniors side is a boon for cricket in the region.<\/p>\n

“It’s not just us who’ve lost a few juniors sides in the area,” he said.<\/p>\n

“There’s Smythesdale, and there’s no sides at Carngham, Scarsdale, or Ross Creek at the moment so it’s big for the area.<\/p>\n

The blasters program will run each Tuesday from 12 November.<\/p>\n
