{"id":99744,"date":"2024-10-11T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-10T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=99744"},"modified":"2024-10-09T23:23:16","modified_gmt":"2024-10-09T12:23:16","slug":"tennis-club-serves-up-big-catch-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/tennis-club-serves-up-big-catch-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Tennis club serves up big catch-up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PAST and current members of the Bannockburn Tennis Club community came together on Sunday to celebrate the group&#8217;s history.<\/p>\n<p>With morning tea provided, attendees were invited to catch-up and reminisce about the club and have a social game out on the courts.<\/p>\n<p>Bannockburn Tennis Club secretary Rachael Le Maitre said the event was a great meeting between their past and present.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was such an exciting morning,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We had so many past and present players gather and share some memories and celebrate our club.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2024\/10\/image_50393857_20629.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"1036\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bannockburn Tennis Club&#8217;s Kate Stewart received a life membership.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had Lyle Stephens, who&#8217;s 91 and featured in our first premiership photo from 1953 to 54 in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was lovely to chat to so many past and present players and listen to their stories and their fond memories from their playing days.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were also able to recognise and thank our life members and previous committee members for their contributions in paving the way for our club.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>About 120 people attended the event while a handmade frame replete with photos of past premiership wins was created in honour of the day.<\/p>\n<p>Memorabilia dating back to 1909, including newspaper clippings, premiership photos, and a blazer, was on display.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2024\/10\/image_50732801_20698.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"389\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Many past and present players gathered to share memories and celebrate the club.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think the club has ever done something like this before,&#8221; Ms Le Maitre estimated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There were a lot of people asking when we&#8217;ll do it again so that&#8217;s definitely something we&#8217;ll have to look into doing a bit more often.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A lot of people wouldn&#8217;t have been to the clubrooms since we moved here about 12 years ago so it was nice for everyone to visit and just catch up.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kate Stewart, a committee member and treasurer with the club since 2014, was also presented with a life membership during the event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PAST and current members of the Bannockburn Tennis Club community came together on Sunday to celebrate the group&#8217;s history.
