Movie magic with the Show Choir
THE Show Choir returns to the Brunswick Picture House stage with its new show, Musical Movie Hits, in celebration of the magic of cinema on November 15.
The program will feature songs from blockbuster musicals and cult classics, including hits from Barbie, Wicked, The Greatest Showman, Rent and Little Women.
Local singer Rachel Sinclair first developed the choir in late 2024.
“I saw an opportunity for an ensemble where people could sing contemporary songs with the same energy and passion you’d find in a musical, but with the accessibility and community spirit of a local choir,” Sinclair said.
“We officially launched in early 2025 and I’ve been directing it since day one.
“It’s built on the idea that singing should be fun, expressive, and open to everyone: no auditions, no pressure, just great music and good company.
“Most of our members come from Ballina and the surrounding areas, including Alstonville, Lennox Head and Lismore.”

Sinclair has sung in choirs most of her life, beginning with university ensembles in Adelaide and Perth, and for seven years with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
Since relocating to the Northern Rivers, the Alstonville based singer has performed with many local choirs, including with Vox Caldera in two NORPA productions.
“Show Choir grew out of my love for expressive, contemporary music and the joy of singing with others,” she said.
“It’s a lovely, welcoming community and a great central spot for connecting with the wider music making community.”
Performer, accompanist and musical director for the Bangalow Theatre, Margaret Curtis, will join the event on piano and harp.
Special guests, the all-women Ballina a cappella group, Headliners Chorus, will open the show with its vast repertoire including jazz, swing, pop and show tunes.
