There’s nothing like a block party!

THE Tweed Museum Street Party celebrating its 20th Birthday last Saturday was a smash for young and old alike.

From the market stalls and delicious food options to the Museum on Wheels, flash mobs by The Cassettes, collaborative community artwork and the Banana Queen, and a program of local musical talent, the event was a testament to the strong community spirit that binds us all.

The day begins off with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Uncle Franc Krasna. A highlight was welcoming home two of Tweed’s Olympians – marathon swimmer and silver medallist Moesha Johnson, and fellow swimmer Isabella Rose Millar, who were joined by Paralympian Tracey Lee Barrell OAM. The athletes held court in the Olympic Pavilion with ABC Radio’s Cathy Border in a public Q&A and meet and greet with young fans.

Singer Budjerah made an appearance in the leadup to his national tour in support of his mates and relations in Blackline and The Jacks, the latter band notably supportive of developing young talent.

The ambitious event was a resounding success, with the light installations casting a magical glow on the poinciana trees and the skyline and the glorious sun setting on the vibrant community event.
