THE NORTHERN Rivers Community Gallery (NRCG) has unveiled its program for four new September exhibitions featuring diverse themes of culture, time, memory, and the natural environment.

Gallery Coordinator Imbi Davidson said the exhibitions were a brilliant artistic showcase of the region.

“This group of artworks spans painting, printmaking, and sculpture,” she said.

“We are delighted to be presenting artists outside the region coupled with local artists and their work, with each exhibition delving into unique subject matter and inspirations.”

Nick Pike’s Shaman Cola delves into the artist’s ongoing fascination with the concept of the plastic shaman—self-proclaimed spiritual advisors and new-age healers seeking fame and fortune through social media.

With a sense of humour and irony, the exhibition investigates inner worlds within the broader context of shared space and intelligence and critiques the commodified culture that plastic shamans represent.

In Towards a Feeling, Sam Holt explores the opportunities that exist in any moment in time and speaks to the transient relationship of our physical surroundings with our mental states. Holt uses photography to manipulate and collage memories that are then printed, stretched, and painted in oils.

Jenn Rowe and Laeten Taylor explore the complex relationships between humanity and the natural world through sculpture in Birds of a Feather.

The artists symbolically and physically deconstruct and re-construct concerns about environmental degradation and the delicate interdependence between humans and their environment.

In the group exhibition, Time and Tide, contemporary printmaking by seven artists showcases significant early work from their archives. In conversation with new work, each artist has observed where new work echoes the old, re-examining the territory and material form across many years.

All exhibitions continue until Sunday, October 13. The Northern Rivers Community Gallery is open Wednesday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm and from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm on weekends.
