The divine duo of De Ziah and Date returns to Murwillumbah armed with a new album and a newly released single.

Known for intricate and mesmerising concerts, cellist Ilse de Ziah and guitarist Ian Date bring their virtuoso musical partnership to The Citadel on Sunday, September 22.

The debut album Here and There, released late last year, was lauded as a masterpiece and emerged from a creative synergy across Ireland and Australia in 2023.

A classical sensibility drives the duo’s fusion of Celtic, jazz, and world music to give a fresh perspective on global musical styles. This blend was last bestowed in Tweed on their 2023 tour of their documentary film and performance tour de force, Living the Tradition: An Enchanting Journey into Old Irish Airs.

In the captivating journey filmed on location in Ireland, the artists paint tales of the sea’s allure, find solace in darkness, navigate life’s unexpected twists and turns, and celebrate everyday beauty.

Date is one of Australia’s foremost guitar virtuosos and pioneered the introduction of the European gypsy jazz style to Australia.

The guitarist, songwriter, and composer for film and TV has left his mark on over 100 albums.

His compositions transcend genres, and his demand has seen him sharing the stage and studio with musicians James Morrison, Tom Baker, Don Burrows, Martin Taylor, Tommy Emmanuel, George Golla and Hank Marvin of The Shadows.

Marvin said Date’s improvisational ability and versatility were exceptional.

“He is a fine soloist with an outstanding knowledge,” he said. “If he is performing in your area, seize the opportunity to see and hear one of Australia’s finest guitarists.”

De Ziah’s cross-genre style has revolutionised the role of the cello in Irish music. A prolific composer, arranger, and recording artist with two solo cello albums and many international collaborations, her eclectic background across Ireland, England, Wales, Vienna, Australia, and the United States brings rich cultural influences and a musicality that inspires audiences worldwide.
