FAMILIES across the Byron Shire will receive support this holiday season, with the Byron Community Centre launching its annual Adopt a Family Christmas Hamper Appeal.

The initiative encourages individuals and businesses to create hampers valued at $100 to support families in financial hardship, spreading joy and much-needed relief.

“The Adopt a Family Christmas Hamper Appeal embodies the true spirit of compassion within our community,” said Renuka Nicail, customer service coordinator.

“It’s uplifting to witness the generosity of our locals who come together each year to ensure that no family feels forgotten during the festive season.”

The Byron Community Centre partners with Fletcher Street Cottage and food rescue service Liberation Larder to identify families in need.

To participate, donors can contact the Byron Community Centre to be matched with a family and deliver hampers by December 11.

Hampers should include non-perishable food, gifts, and vouchers to bring joy to the adopted family.

“This appeal is a powerful reminder of how connected we are as a community,” said Kate Love, communications manager.

“Every contribution, big or small, helps to ignite hope and joy, allowing every family to feel the season of giving.

“We’re deeply grateful for the kindness shown by our supporters.”

Those unable to create a hamper can contribute to the “Be Kind” Fletcher Street Cottage Christmas Appeal at fletcherstreetcottage.com.au.
