Applications open for Mayoral Fund
COMMUNITY groups, organisations and schools in the Byron Shire are encouraged to apply for the 2024/25 Byron Shire Mayoral Fund, with $3500 available for small projects that have a big impact on the community.
Byron Shire mayor Sarah Ndiaye said the fund was about making a small difference to hard-working groups that provide services for our community.
“While the grants might be modest, they can also be the difference in bringing community-driven projects to life,” Cr Ndiaye said.
Last year’s recipients included Goonengerry Public School, which received $500 towards the purchase of kitchen appliances for a student cooking program and an indigenous food garden.
Mullumbimby Community Food Box was also granted $500 to help with freight and electricity costs associated with its food box program for locals impacted by the rising cost of living.
Other recipients included Brunswick Heads Public School, which received $500 towards building the 2024 school musical backdrop, and Bangalow Men’s Shed, awarded $500 to help support a women’s wood-working group building a weather-proof pantry for those in need.
Cr Ndiaye stressed the importance of smaller projects that often create the most meaningful change in local communities.
“I really encourage all community groups to apply,” she said.
Applications for the Mayoral Fund close at 9am on November 4. More information, including how to apply, is available on Council’s website.
