BALLINA has been named one of the top tourism towns in NSW, winning bronze in this year’s Top Tourism Town Awards.

Kiama won gold for the second year in a row, with Shellharbour awarded silver in the category for towns with a population over 5000.

The awards, run by the NSW Tourism Industry Council with support from the NRMA, attracted a large number of entries from across the state.

It’s the second year in a row Ballina has placed in the top three after winning silver in 2023.

Destination Ballina, which operates the visitor information centre, promotes the region’s coastline, rainforests, waterfalls and local businesses.

“A massive shoutout to our amazing local businesses, tourism operators and the community,” a spokesperson from the tourism operator said.

“Your dedication is what puts Ballina on the map as a must-visit gem in regional NSW.

“Awards like this don’t come easy, they reflect the amazing experiences we offer, the friendly faces behind them, and the pride we all share in showcasing our slice of paradise.”

Ballina was recognised for its accessibility, year-round appeal and growing hospitality scene, as well as innovation and growth in its business community. Visitor reviews and public voting also contributed to the result.

Ballina Shire Council team leader Alanah Ward said the award reflected the efforts of the whole community.

“This recognition celebrates more than just our stunning coastline and lush hinterland, it highlights the powerful collaboration behind the scenes that makes every visitor feel right at home,” Ms Ward said.

“Earning a spot as a finalist once again shines a light on the incredible dedication and pride our community pours into creating a vibrant, welcoming Ballina experience.”
