SOME of Australia’s top bull riders will compete in a new rodeo event in Alstonville next month, with Bulls, Broncs and Barrels set to bring a packed night of action to the showground.
The event, organised by the Alstonville Agriculture Society, is part of the National Rodeo Association season and will take place at Alstonville Showground on Saturday, March 8.
It will feature junior and senior riders competing in a range of events, including steer wrestling, saddle bronc, rope and tie, and multiple bull riding competitions, including bareback rides.
Alstonville Agriculture Society secretary Faye Wilson said there had been growing demand for a large-scale rodeo event.
“After witnessing the popularity of a smaller scale bull ride at the annual show for many years, the group has decided to bring a rodeo spectacular to the main show ring,” she said.

“This will allow for more spectators to get right in on the action, with the added thrill of barrel racing and bucking broncs, there will something for everyone.
“Community support is the backbone in making these events happen and the response so far has been overwhelming.”
Riders will compete for points that go towards the national finals.
Many of the top competitors travel the country year-round, with professional riders in both the cowboy and cowgirl divisions.
The event will also feature country and western market stalls and food vendors. Gates open at 4pm, with full bar facilities run by the show society.
Tickets are available online at alstonvilleshow.com, with discounts for early purchases, or at the gate on the day.
