LISMORE City Council is calling on residents to take advantage of its electronic waste voucher system.

It offers one waste voucher per eligible property with a saving of $74.40.

Council said a total of 5000 vouchers are available each financial year.

About 416 are available each month, depending on how many have been redeemed.

Once it has is issued, you have 30 days to take your waste to either Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre or Nimbin Transfer Station.

Batteries from embedded items can also be recycled for free at the Lismore centre.

These include bluetooth speakers, headphones, electric toothbrushes, smart watches, vacuum cleaners and vapes.

“Please sort your waste beforehand as much as possible – it will it be cheaper for you and enable Council to recycle items and keep more out of landfill,” a council spokesperson said.

“If you don’t use your voucher within the 30 days, it will expire and you can apply again another time.”

The same rules apply for rental properties in the local government area.

While Council encourages people to use the electronic system wherever possible, anyone without internet access can apply in person or over the phone on 6625 0500.

Property owners need to supply a rates assessment number while people renting need a proof of tenancy agreement to apply.
