A CHARITY road rally covering 3500km across NSW and South Australia will set off from Bondi Beach on August 3, raising money for children in remote communities.
The Variety B to B Bash will travel through Broken Hill and a string of country towns over 11 days, with more than 100 classic cars taking part.
Byron Bay local Ruth Einfeld will join the rally in her 1966 Ford Falcon XP, known as Mabel, as part of a team aiming to raise more than $8,500 for Variety.
She said while the Bash is a colourful spectacle, its real purpose is to support children in isolated areas.
“When the Bash comes to remote outback schools, it not only brings smiles to the kids and locals, but the money raised goes to resources and programs,” she said.
“It’s not about fun, but it’s also a fantastic cause, providing for areas where they don’t see a lot of money.”
Ms Einfeld still needs to raise about $1,500 to participate and will be selling raffle tickets at Bunnings in Lismore and the Eltham Hotel on July 27.
“Meals, accommodation, fuel and other personal items required during the Bash are fully funded by us and not by any money that we fundraise,” she said.
“By supporting our entry, people are helping give kids a fair go.”
This year’s Bash coincides with the 50-year anniversary of Variety, which helps provide mobility equipment, therapy, medical services and educational resources for children.
Raffle tickets cost $10, with a major prize valued at $10,000. Ms Einfeld will be at Bunnings between 10am and 3pm before moving on to the Eltham Hotel.
