Charity golf day to help save lives at sea
GOLFERS from across the region are ready to swing into action for a good cause at the Reflections NSW Marine Rescue Charity Golf Day at Ocean Shores Country Club on Sunday 1 February.
Reflections Byron Bay park manager Belinda Russell launched the four-person Ambrose event in 2025 as part of Rescue Month – Reflections Holiday Parks’ annual fundraising initiative.
“The goal is to raise much-needed funds and awareness for a chosen charity,” she said.
“This year, we are proud to be supporting NSW Marine Rescue. Given our park’s proximity to the ocean, Marine Rescue was a cause we felt strongly about supporting and giving back to.
“Last year saw more than 60 people attend the event and this year we are hoping to grow that to over 100.”
The day will begin at 10.45am with a welcome barbecue and registration, followed by a shotgun start at 12pm, with teams allocated to their designated tee-off locations. Once play is underway, a host will circulate the course providing drinks and selling raffle tickets.

At the conclusion of play, participants will gather at the clubhouse for presentations. The winning team will be announced and awarded their prize, followed by the raffle draw. Prizes include a $1,000 Reflections Holiday Parks voucher, a Weber Q barbecue, a retro bike and an esky.
An Ambrose (or Scramble) in golf is a team format where all players hit their shots, the best one is chosen, and everyone plays their next shot from that spot, recording only one team score per hole.
Russell said the format works well because it maximises fun, minimises frustration and keeps everyone involved.
“There’s also something special about being outdoors, moving at an easy pace, laughing at the bad shots, and enjoying the good ones. The banter, the stories, the moments on a tee box or green that people still talk about long after the day is over.”
Funds raised will go directly towards supporting life-saving marine search and rescue services and ensuring volunteers remain ready and well equipped.
