LISMORE City Council is hosting a community consultation session on February 19 to help shape its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

In its community consultation phase, the RAP will outline practical actions for the Council to promote respect and create opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The consultation session aims to provide an open forum for discussion and feedback to guide the plan’s development, and allow First Nations communities and the broader public to contribute to meaningful reconciliation efforts.

Lismore City Council general manager Jon Gibbons said community involvement was crucial in developing the RAP.

“Reconciliation is a shared journey, and we want to ensure that our Reconciliation Action Plan reflects the voices and aspirations of our community,” Mr Gibbons said.

“Meaningful engagement with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents is crucial in building strong, respectful relationships and creating positive change.”

The Council has engaged Tim Roberts from East Coast Heritage and Archaeology to support the consultation and work with the community to gather its collective input.

Residents can attend the Lismore Central Shopping Centre session on Wednesday, February 19 and drop in any time between 10am and 2pm.
