LISMORE City Council is inviting residents to have their say on the future of Clunes as the draft master plan goes on public exhibition.

The plan was developed through a community reference group over the past 12 months and aims to preserve the village’s character while planning for sustainable growth.

In-person sessions will be held at Clunes Coronation Hall on Thursday, September 4 and Saturday, September 6. Council planners will also be available at the Village Park on the next two Wednesdays between 8am and 10am.

Acting head of planning and environment Jamie van Iersel said the consultation is a chance for locals to set priorities for the next three decades.

“We want to hear from residents about what they value and want preserved, and also what is missing or could be improved over the next 30 years,” she said.

“This is our chance to plan for growth that keeps Clunes’ character, plans for infrastructure delivery, and meets the needs of future residents.”

The draft plan, survey and interactive map will be available at the sessions. Feedback can also be lodged online, with submissions open until Monday, September 15.

Lismore mayor Steve Krieg said the master plan will balance growth with protecting Clunes’ rural charm.

“There is no doubt about the beauty of Clunes so as more people want to live there, it’s crucial that we protect its rural character,” he said.
