Dayo Cafe opens in Tweed
A NEW globally inspired brunch spot, Dayo Café, opens today (Friday, July 25) in Tweed Heads South, offering Filipino and Mediterranean flavours alongside locally roasted coffee.
The café is the second venture for chef Johnny Ang, following the success of George’s Deli in Kingscliff. He said the name ‘dayo’, which means ‘visitor’ in Filipino, reflects the welcoming atmosphere the team wants to create.
“Dayo is really close to our hearts,” Ang said. “It means traveller or visitor, and that’s how we want everyone to feel when they walk in – like they’ve just arrived somewhere welcoming, where they belong.”
Ang is joined by chefs Kristyn Ang and Jerrika Guiang, who share a grounding in Filipino culture and years of experience in Asian and Mediterranean kitchens.
“We didn’t want to create just another café,” Ang said.

“Dayo Café is built on the dishes we love, the flavours we grew up with, and the memories we’ve made in kitchens over the years.
“It’s food with soul, a little Filipino, a little Mediterranean, a little fun, and meant to be shared.”
The menu features all-day breakfast and brunch with global comfort dishes, vibrant vegetarian choices and coffee from local roaster Ground Control.
Byron Matcha Man blends headline the drinks list, with matcha floats – iced matcha lattes topped with house-made ice cream – among the highlights.
To celebrate the opening, the first 50 customers today will receive a free Matcha Float.
Dayo Café is open from 7am to 2pm daily at 118 Wharf Street, Tweed Heads South.
