EIGHT local sporting organisations have received $500,000 to provide potentially life-saving defibrillators in their facilities.
Local recipients include the Cawongla District Tennis and Recreation Club Incorporated, the Dunoon United Football Club, Flourish Projects Incorporated, Lismore GG’s Golden Rugby Club, the Murwillumbah Croquet Club, Northern United Rugby League Football Club, Rainbow Roos AU Incorporated and the Urbenville Bowls Club.
Lismore MP Janelle Saffin congratulated the groups on the acquisitions.
“With more people than ever participating in sport and active recreation in our Electorate of Lismore, it’s vital that our local facilities are equipped with these potentially life-saving devices,” Saffin said.
“I commend them for prioritising the safety and well-being of their participants.”
The NSW Government’s Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program funded 193 organisations across the state and provides up to $3,000 for the new automated external defibrillators’ purchase, installation and training.
The initiative aims to promote wider access to the devices across NSW and to support local sport and recreational clubs in purchasing an AED package.
More than 2,500 defibrillators have been installed since the program began.
