Farm Field Day at The Paddock Project
NON-profit social enterprise The Paddock Project in Mullumbimby is hosting a Farm Field Day on Saturday, October 26.
The open day features a tour of the syntropic system and the market gardens that form part of the farm’s NDIS workers program.
The Paddock Project aims to provide meaningful employment skills and opportunities for young people living with a disability to grow sustainable produce using syntropic farming principles.
The small working farm also hosts a selection of tours, workshops, events and opportunities for the community to engage with the project, including an all-week farm stall.
Garden designer and syntropic guru Rodrigo Pierini will lead the Farm Field Day and explain the innovative principles of the syntropic system in a community setting.
Syntropic farming incorporates minimal machinery usage, companion planting and organic fertility management.
A key characteristic of the method is that a wide variety of plants with different lifespans and light requirements are planted at very high density, as would be seen within a rainforest or naturally regenerating area.
Well-structured syntropic systems can continually harvest vegetables, fruits, herbs, flowers and forestry timber.
The tour has limited numbers, and attendees are advised to book early for a 9am start. Morning tea will be provided, and the onsite food truck will offer lunch after the tour.
Participants should bring appropriate closed walking footwear, sun protection and a water bottle.
