THE New South Wales Government is inviting Aboriginal community organisations to apply for event and activities grants to celebrate and promote First Nations cultures.

The $500 to $20,000 cultural grants aim to support, strengthen, protect and maintain traditional and contemporary expressions of Aboriginal culture.

The rolling program is open to apply until the $800,000 in funding is exhausted or the round closes on March 21, whichever comes first.

NSW Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Treaty David Harris said the program was a great way to support events and initiatives showcasing NSW’s rich diversity of Aboriginal cultures.

“These grants are designed to empower Aboriginal community organisations to run events which celebrate culture and facilitate sharing of Aboriginal cultural knowledge and skills through generations,” Harris said.

“This program will help deliver a key priority of the Closing the Gap agreement, that Aboriginal people enjoy high levels of social and emotional wellbeing.”

Last year’s program supported 66 projects across NSW, including dance, song and language workshops, a culture camp for Aboriginal children and art workshops.

Aboriginal Affairs NSW has held a free online Cultural Grants Community Information Session, which is available to view on the website.
