RESILIENT Lismore will host its inaugural Hearts and Stars fundraiser to raise funds to help keep the flood recovery group running.
The gala dinner will be held at the Lismore Regional Gallery on Friday, September 19, with money raised going towards the group’s free tool library and a range of services to help the region better prepare for future disasters.
The group has completed thousands of repair jobs and contributed an estimated $4.5 million in volunteer aid over the past three years.
It also shares knowledge with at-risk communities across the Northern Rivers and wider New South Wales.
“It’s been three years since the flood and we’re still here: repairing homes, sharing skills, and helping our community get prepared,” executive director Elly Bird said.
“We’re really asking for the support to continue the important work we do here and across the Northern Rivers.
“We welcome locals to dress up, dine and celebrate our strengths, while raising our spirits.”
For eight months after the flood in 2022, Resilient Lismore operated out of an undercover car park in the CBD. Later that year it moved into its home on Keen Street, where it continues to support people.
The group has had a busy few months, extending its flood recovery work with donations and repair jobs in communities on the Mid North Coast.
The fundraiser is also a chance for its volunteers and supporters to reflect on achievements over the past three years.
It will feature prizes and best dressed awards alongside music and entertainment.
“The theme is Hearts and Stars, so we’re encouraging guests to wear their hearts on their sleeves and shine like stars,” event coordinator Emma Newman said.
“It’s a chance to feel fabulous while supporting something really meaningful.”
Local musician Gabrielle Griffin will be MC at the event, with catering from the new Take Care Cafe.
Early bird tickets are on sale until Friday, September 5, via Resilient Lismore.
