Fun run marks 30 years in Lismore
LISMORE’S Darrel Chapman Fun Run will celebrate its 30th year on Sunday with organisers expecting the biggest turnout in the event’s history.
More than 800 people have already registered to take part in the run, which raises money for children’s charity Our Kids, with more participants expected on the day.
The event begins at 7am in Woodlark Street with the Lord’s Taverners 10km Run and the Lismore Masters Half Marathon, followed by the Terania Consulting 4km Walk and Run at 9am.
Our Kids fundraising coordinator Rebekka Battista said the fun run had become a much-loved tradition.
“One fun element each year is the guess-the-shirt-colour tradition for the 10km and 21km competitors,” she said. “It’s the best-kept secret and will be revealed on Friday.”
This year’s shirts, sponsored by Bennett Constructions, are a sought-after souvenir and often spotted across the Northern Rivers long after the event.
Funds raised will go towards buying a GlideScope CORE System for Byron Central Hospital’s emergency department. The airway visualisation system provides high-definition images for intubation, with paediatric blades designed to help babies and children in urgent care.
The fun run is sponsored by NAB Lismore. Registrations can still be made online or from 6am on the day at the registration tent in Woodlark Street.
