BALLINA RSL Club and the local CWA branch have teamed up for a Mad Hatter’s fundraiser to support the Cancer Council as part of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.

The Alice in Wonderland-themed high tea will take place in the Spinnakers Room at Ballina RSL Club on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, with outrageous hats and colourful outfits encouraged.

Funds raised will support local women who must travel for cancer treatment, with guest speakers, raffles, prizes and a fashion parade all part of the program.

Ballina RSL Club executive manager for marketing and community engagement Michelle Tyson said she expected about 100 women to attend.

“We’ve had a morning tea in previous years, but this will be the first time we’ve had the CWA come on board and share the day,” she said.

“There is every chance we’ll make it a flagship event between the two which we can run annually with the Cancer Council.

“The women who attend these events are a lot of fun and there will be fashion parades and plenty happening on the day.”

There will be prizes for best ensemble, best hat and overall outfit, with the fashion parade judged by members of local cancer support group Breast Friends.

“The Spinnakers Room is a beautiful spot to eat with great views along the Richmond River,” Ms Tyson said.

“The fashion parade will be a lot of fun, and it will be judged by some of the ladies from the Breast Friends group.

“They do a lot of work fundraising and supporting local women who have cancer.”

The high tea will run from 10am to 12.30pm and tickets cost $20, with half of each ticket donated to the Cancer Council.
