A MAJOR commercial property in Lismore’s CBD has been listed for sale, with the building that houses La Baracca café and bar set to change hands just two years after a major refurbishment.
Lismore mayor Steve Krieg and his wife Julianne have placed the 28 Zadoc Street property on the market, with the 1,745sqm site being offered with vacant possession.
The former Rous Hotel underwent a full renovation in 2023, when the Kriegs relocated La Baracca to the site following the 2022 floods.
Colliers agents Kye Ward and Louis Young are managing the expressions of interest campaign, which will close on June 18.
Ward said the site, which retains hotel zoning, offers scope for investors or owner-occupiers to reimagine the building.
“A buyer could conceivably operate the site again as a hotel, but the options are endless at a time when Lismore is experiencing a renaissance of growth,” he said.
Young said interest in the precinct had increased following the recent sale of the former cinema building across the road, which is being refurbished by new owner Luke Mackey.
“The sale of the La Baracca building coincides with increased investor activity in the region and this site is primed to benefit from the opening of the new cinema,” he said.
The venue has a gross lettable area of 848sqm and is zoned E2 Commercial Centre.
The Kriegs took over La Baracca in 2008 and relocated it to the Zadoc Street site in a bid to help revitalise the flood-hit city.
Ward said the couple was stepping away from the business to pursue new paths, with the mayor focusing on politics and Julianne nearing graduation as a doctor.
