PLACES in the next round of the Go4Fun healthy lifestyle initiative are filling fast, with record enrolments for the forthcoming term.

The free 10-week after-school program for children aged 7–13 and their families helps to build healthy eating habits, and provides tips and assistance for getting active and supporting overall wellbeing.

Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) Acting Director of Integrated Care and Allied Health Services, Kathryn Watson, said the department had been working with residents on improvements.

“We have been working closely with local communities to identify how Go4Fun can work for them, including by making the registration process easier, hosting programs at local schools and community centres, or working with local people to promote programs,” Watson said.

“As a result, we have seen a surge in enrolments. It shows that families are valuing a free, locally based program that helps families and children to connect with others in their local area.

“Go4Fun helps kids and their families who want to get healthier together, with easy tips to make changes and fun activities to put these changes into practice,” she said.

For families who can’t attend in person, there is also a free 10-week Go4Fun Online program.

“The advantage of online is that families can start the program at any time, as it isn’t term-based, and they can fit weekly sessions around their busy schedules,” Watson said.

Go4Fun has supported over 13,000 families in NSW to make positive changes to their health and wellbeing.

Places are available for Term 4 in Banora Point each Wednesday from October 16. In Murwillumbah and Pottsville, the program will run each Monday from October 14.

Parents and carers can sign up for the program directly, and health professionals and GPs can also refer their patients.
