Monster trucks a season highlight at speedway

January 3, 2025 BY

A SEASON highlight will take place at Lismore Speedway with the popular monster trucks show set down for Saturday, January 11.

The event brings families to the track from across the region who are keen to see the big engines take centre stage.

Multiple monster trucks will be used in what is the busiest time of year for the speedway team.

The event features high flying ramp jumps and car crunching demonstrations.

In a big night of racing, there will be plenty on the line in the $10,000-to-win Hot Pursuit main event for modified sedans.

It is one of the bigger money events on the calendar in that division.

There is competition in the modlites, with the running of the Kevvie Cup and AMCA Nationals.

The big race meetings are held across summer with the $10,000 Lil Aussie Open event for sprintcars taking place on January 8.

It will feature a variety of drivers from across the country with a handful of international entries.

The Lismore Showground Speedway venue is one of the longest running tracks in the history of the sport in Australia.

It has a strong reputation for hosting some of the biggest events during the holiday perionds.

Owners Mick and Kim Sauer took over from long-time promoter David Lander two years ago.

Since taking on the role, they have focussed on enhancing the racing calendar and bringing popular events back to the region.

Locals Jacob Jolley and Mark Robinson have enjoyed plenty of success in that time.

Robinson is a multiple-time champion while Jolley continues to impress with a handful of victories at home and across the country.

Trent Schofield is an emerging talent and is making a name for himself in the V8 Mr Modified series.

The Northern Rivers also has a growing talent pool in the junior ranks with Indi Butcher leading the way among the female drivers.

The season runs until winter where it culminates with two big nights of competition on June 7-8.
