MONSTER trucks and a newly named memorial race will highlight a two-night Easter spectacular at Lismore speedway.

A bumper crowd is expected to attend on Saturday and Sunday after two previous monster truck events at the venue were washed out.

It will also be the running of the Bruce Maxwell Classic in the hotly contested and popular V8 dirt modified division.

Maxwell was a colourful racing identity who died overseas after a road accident in 2019.

“Bruce was such a great character,” Lismore speedway promoter Kim Sauer said.

“We are very pleased to host this race in his honour as Bruce was also such a very well-liked person during his long time in the sport.”

Maxwell raced and commentated in the division for many years at the Lismore track.

He was a regular contributor to the Variety Club of Australia bash event which has raised thousands for sick and injured kids.

He spent his later years at Byron Bay where he ran a petrol station and convenience store.

The race has attracted a quality field including current Australian Champion Kevin Britten who will be competing for more than $20,000 prize money.

“The impressive line-up typifies the high regard and respect this affable character with the gravel voice was held in by so many people,” speedway commentator Dennis Newlyn said.

“For many years he sat beside long serving Lismore venue commentator Neil Marks assisting with commentary.

“He also is remembered for the incredible charity work he did for kids.”

The Easter shows will also feature wingless sprints, AMCA nationals, junior sedans and RSA sedans.

Gates open at 3pm, while online ticket holders can access the showground from 1pm.
