EVERY bear that ever there was will gather at Bangalow Heritage House and Museum on Saturday August 30 for the annual Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

Bangalow Historical Society President Trisha Bleakley said the event is returning for its second year following the success of last year’s picnic, which saw around 50 children in attendance.

This year’s event will offer a variety of classic, fun-filled activities, including games like giant Jenga and Connect 4, as well as craft activities, fairy bread, ice blocks, chocolate crackles and hula hoops. There will also be four rocking horses available for the kids to ride.

Children are encouraged to bring along their favourite teddy bear, dressed up for the occasion, and share what makes it special. They can also have their photo taken with their teddy.

For those feeling a little competitive, there’s a teddy bear parade with a $2 entry fee. All proceeds from the parade will go towards covering the event’s costs.

Bleakley said one of the memorable moments from last year’s picnic was when children were interviewed about their teddy bears.

“Volunteers sat on the stairs with the microphone and asked the kids to come up and say who they were and tell a story about their bear,” she said.

“Their faces just lit up – it was wonderful.”

Children without a teddy bear of their own are still welcome to bring along any other favourite toy.

The Tweed Richmond Regional Library’s mobile library bus, which visits on Saturday mornings, will be extending its hours until 2pm to coincide with the event. The library will bring along a selection of large toys and will also feature a giant teddy bear in a prominent location for all to enjoy.

Bleakley also encouraged attendees to bring their own picnic lunch – and to hope for good weather on the day.

The event will take place at Bangalow Heritage House & Museum from 11am to 2pm on Saturday, August 30.
