Pre-loved titles for sale at Friends of Libraries book fair
FRIENDS of Libraries Byron Shire will host its much-loved annual book fair at the Byron Bay Surf Club next weekend, offering more than 1,000 second-hand books for sale.
The event, which runs from Friday July 11 to Monday July 14, is a major fundraiser for the Byron Shire’s three libraries – Byron Bay, Mullumbimby, and Brunswick Heads.
Funds raised will support programs and resources not covered by government funding. This includes young adult and junior programs, such as the Junior Book Club, school holiday events and learn-to-read initiatives. Proceeds will also help expand book collections and support the popular ‘Quick Read’ program, which provides high-demand titles on a one-week loan basis.
“There’s always a long list of needs that help our libraries stay vibrant and remain a vital part of the community,” Friends of Libraries Byron Shire spokesperson Margot Wright said.
A raffle will also be held in conjunction with the fair, with prizes generously donated by local businesses. They include dining vouchers from Crystalbrook Byron, Three Blue Ducks and Beach restaurant; a golf and cart hire package from Byron Bay Golf Club and a tour of Stone & Wood Brewing Co.
Friends of Libraries Byron Shire is a not-for-profit community group affiliated with Friends of Libraries Australia. The organisation supports local libraries through fundraising, advocacy and literary events. It is currently partnering with the Book Room Collective to ensure local libraries are stocked with titles featured in the upcoming Byron Writers Festival.
Throughout the year, the group hosts regular author talks and literary events, with members receiving updates via email.
The book fair will be open daily from 9am to 4pm, providing a great opportunity to support local libraries while picking up a few literary treasures.
