Regent Remix launches with classic films for kids and live DJs for adults
A NEW weekly Friday night event at Murwillumbah’s restored Regent Cinema will combine classic film screenings for children with live DJ sets for adults.
The initiative, titled Regent Remix: Old Walls, New Waves, will run from 4pm to 9pm and is designed as a family friendly gathering that makes use of multiple spaces within the historic venue.
Children will watch movies inside the 79 year old theatre while adults can relax on the downstairs balcony during live DJ performances.
Owner Troy Stanley said the concept aimed to bring different generations together while keeping entertainment affordable.
“We have the ability to create this community hub that has the capabilities to run a multitude of events, but also just to bring people together,” he said.
“So you can come and sit on the balcony, and your kids can watch a movie for five dollars.”

Classic films including The Little Rascals, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and The Wizard of Oz are expected to feature as part of the program.
Stanley said the screenings were intended to recreate shared cinema experiences that many adults remembered from their own childhood.
“For me, I think about those old movie marathons and going there with all your mates and having that experience of building those core memories,” he said.
“Our kids don’t get that these days.”
Alongside the weekly remix events, the venue is also planning performances from local and visiting artists including Kyle Lionhart and The Women of Country.
Stanley said he expected the cinema to return to full service by early April.
