BULLS and bikes will fly again as Bull Throttle returns to the Lismore Showgrounds on Saturday, May 10, combining professional bull riding with freestyle motocross in a high-adrenaline spectacle.

The hybrid event drew hundreds last year and is back for a second time, promising fast-paced, non-stop action.

Bull Throttle is the brainchild of Jackson and Janaya Felton, a grassroots project that’s quickly gained a strong following across the region.

Jackson has competed internationally in bull riding, while many of the motocross riders are used to large crowds through shows like Nitro Circus and Crusty Demons. Some hold world records and have embraced sharing centre stage with the rodeo community.

“We have a background in the industry, and we know what we do works,” Janaya Felton said.

“These events are about taking it to that next level.”

J and J Rodeo events have expanded across the Northern Rivers, with a major Byron Bay show in January and the Murwillumbah Rodeo held last weekend.

The team partners with local sports clubs to raise money, with Marist Brothers and Murwillumbah rugby league clubs running the bar at recent events.

A highlight of the show is the rapid switch between bull riding and motocross, keeping the action going in five-to-10-minute bursts.

This year’s program also includes a celebrity bull ride, with Lismore City mayor Steve Krieg stepping up to the challenge.

“I’m a country boy at heart, I love bull riding, and I can’t wait to get down there,” he said.

“They put on such a great event; I’d encourage the whole family to come along for a full night of entertainment.

The event will feature a kids’ zone, licensed bar, food trucks, and pre-show entertainment including line dancing from the Cowgirl Surf Club.

Gates open at 4pm, with the show starting at 6pm.
