Summer cabaret at Byron Speakeasy

December 13, 2024 BY

The cultural heart of Byron is beating this summer with the launch of Byron Theatre’s Speakeasy series. Six performances will feature the cream of Australian talent over six nights in January in intimate jazz club mode.

Byron Theatre manager and Speakeasy event producer Jon Howell said the summer would encapsulate everything that made Byron exceptional – creativity, bold performances and community spirit.

“We’ve curated a lineup that will appeal to locals and visitors alike, and we look forward to filling the theatre with laughter, music and applause as audiences immerse themselves in these outstanding events,” Howell said.

The pop-up cabaret club presents a concert series inspired by the classic speakeasy nightclub style of old. The evening will feature guest musicians, late-night dancing, bespoke cocktails and a 1920s Prohibition-era mystique.

Six of Australia’s finest artists bring their unique talents to the intimate cabaret setting.

One of Australia’s most distinctive voices, Karise Eden, will deliver an emotional and electrifying performance. Prinnie Stevens returns to enchant with her dynamic blend of musical theatre, gospel and pop.

Guitar prodigy-turned-bluesman Nathan Cavaleri brings his profound psychedelic journeys to the stage, and the legendary Jeff Lang brings his signature fusion of blues, folk and rock. One of Australia’s most stunning jazz exports After 30 years of headlining shows in North America, Europe and Asia, jazz artist Nicki Parrott has returned home to captivate audiences with her velvety vocals and exquisite bass playing.

The mesmerising Abby Dobson (Leonardo’s Bride and Baby et Lulu) closes the series with her characteristic smoky, romantic delivery of original and classics.

“Byron Bay deserves an entertainment experience that matches its vibrant spirit,” Howell said.

“Byron can get a little hectic in January, and we want audiences to relax and take their time.

“The Byron Speakeasy is about more than just incredible music – it’s about creating a space where audiences can unwind, connect, and truly immerse themselves in the magic of the moment,” he said.
