THE Surf Festival Market is set to return as part of the Byron Bay Surf Festival on Saturday, August 17.

After being canceled due to Cyclone Oma in 2019 and then the pandemic, the markets are making a comeback.

Byron Markets, which run the regular monthly Byron Community Markets, will manage the event.

Manager Graham Double said he was honored to collaborate with the surf festival again.

“This partnership highlights our shared commitment to supporting local artisans and promoting sustainability within our community,” Mr Double said.

Byron Bay Surf Festival chairman John Finlay said he was excited the markets were set to return.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Byron Surf Festival Market back to life,” Finlay said.

“Partnering with Byron Markets ensures a truly authentic and vibrant experience that showcases the best of our local surf culture and community spirit.”

Founded in 2010, the Byron Bay Surf Festival has grown into a multi-day event celebrating surf culture.

The markets will feature around 80 stalls, including food, fashion, and art. Vendors will showcase their unique creations.

“Our Festival has always been about more than just surfing; it’s about embracing the entire surf lifestyle and community,” McMillan said.

“This year, with the markets returning, we are expanding that celebration to include even more of what makes Byron Bay special.”

The Byron Bay Surf Festival will run from August 15-18.

This year’s theme, “rewildering,” focuses on reconnecting with nature and promoting environmental stewardship.

Festival highlights include surf competitions, ocean conservation workshops, film screenings and live music.
